RE: The Current Narrative of Collecting Women's Art told by the membership
An exhibition of postal or correspondence art by WAM's membership in response to the question "Why collect women's art?" The exhibit is part of the museum’s initiative to open a dialogue about the value of women’s work as we tackle the recurring questions, often unanswered, as to why such low percentages of women’s works exist in traditional museums.
Some of our exhibiting artists allude to their chosen subject matter or thematic that are not given the same importance. Others point to social structures that position women artists as inferior, while one shouts out that women need to support other women. In answering the question, this exhibit provides us with many different aspects, perspectives and, of course, new questions.
